Reproduction 18th Century Candle Stand
Early lighting, before electricity, has always added a warm glow to a room and has extended the day light hours into the evening.
Rush light & candle holder, Ca. 1780
They were a must to curl up beside with a good book.
I found this picture on the internet and thought I would like to make a couple of reproduction ones for the house.
The early means of threading dowel was by hand using a tool like this. I had borrowed this antique tap and die set from a friend of mine who is an avid tool collector.
These were old table legs I had cut off from an earlier project I’m going to add to the threaded dowel.
I wanted the underside to be tapered like the original.
With a little aging and distressing ……. the finished product.
